Excellent Quality and Service
The team from Rick Horn Construction did a careful and thorough job. We had all of the exterior siding, trim and gutters replaced and it looks like a new house. Better, in fact, as Keith and his crew suggested some design and trim changes that made the later additions match the original house. They were also careful to make sure no stains or paint got on the driveway (including from workers' trucks). I would recommend them without reservation.
WELL DONE. TIMELY WORK.
The Rick Horn experience was a very good one. He and his crew showed up either on time or early. They stayed till the work was done and the work site was clean. Mr. Horn always responds quickly to all inquiries. He and his crew are always willing to explain what they are doing and why to the level of detail that the customer desires. Which for me was quite deep. Work - the repaired the plaster in two different bathrooms and installed ventilation ( along with all the appropriate wiring to bring both bathrooms up to code from 1928 when the house was built). The also repaired plaster in a bedroom ceiling that looked like two tectonic plates that were shifting against each other. I will always keep these folks in mind for any work to be done in the future. They were great to work with. You truly get what you pay for.
Unusual Construction Did Not Deter
My house is of the “pole and beam” design. As such, it is not the typical house structure. Flooring/decking/roofing boards span 8 feet, not the typical 16”, 18” or 24”. •The main floor has a cathedral ceiling with no attic space. Roof repair involved removing/replacing many of the roofing/ceiling boards (5-1/2”W X 2-1/2” thk tongue & groove red cedar faced). When the boards were removed, portions of rooms were open to the sky. After the roof boards were replaced, rigid foam & OSB were applied to improve insulating properties. •Wood beams (wooden 3-1/2” X 11” cross-section X 8’ to 12’ long) supporting the main floor overhang and the adjacent deck required replacement. Overhangs ranged from 2’ to 6’. Overhang portions were jacked to restore levelness of the supported rooms prior to insertion of the new beams. Deck surface boards (2-1/2”W X 5-1/2” thk ranging from 16‘ to 22’ long) required controlled positioning (both laterally & vertically) while maintaining consistent board-to-board side gaps before being secured with 8” nails driven horizontally. The above is noted because the uniqueness of the repair effort discouraged several contractors from bidding. To their credit, Rick Horn Construction was willing to take on this non-standard effort. More importantly, the repair, which took approximately 4 months, was done in a quality manner. Certain issues that I identified several months after the repair was completed were corrected without any negative discussion. This says something positive about the integrity of Rick Horn Construction.
